Meet the Doctor: Training and Philosophy
As a neuropsychologist, I specialize in understanding brain-behavior relationships--in other words, what factors in brain development impact brain functioning so that we can better understand why a child performs or behaves the way they do. I have specialized training to work with medically complex children, who have conditions that impact central nervous system functioning including epilepsy, stroke, concussion or traumatic brain injury, certain autoimmune, genetic, or metabolic conditions, brain tumors and other cancers, preterm birth, cerebral palsy and other movement disorders, and teratogenic exposure and FASD. I have expertise in the evaluation of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and other neurodevelopmental conditions that originate in early childhood, but may not become evident or interfering until later in life.
I completed B.A. in Psychology the University of Michigan, and my Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in pediatric neuropsychology at Eastern Michigan University. I completed 4 years of intensive clinical training during that time, with yearlong+ rotations at Henry Ford Hospital, The Children's Center of Wayne County, and Children's Hospital of Michigan, all in Detroit, MI. I then completed a residency in pediatric neuropsychology at Children's Hospital of Orange County, followed by an additional 2 year post-doctoral fellowship, also at CHOC. I continue to work as an attending pediatric neuropsychologist at CHOC, as part of the epilepsy surgery team, completing pre- and post-surgical neuropsychological evaluations for children with intractable epilepsy, as well as handling referrals from general neurology.
NeurOC is a clinical practice built on my expertise and desire to serve a wider range of clients, and extend my service beyond hospital-based practice alone. You are the expert on your child. It is my goal to help you better understanding your child's cognitive strengths and weaknesses, provide diagnostic clarity, identify the right services/supports, and advocate alongside you to ensure your child has what they need to be as happy, healthy, and independent as possible, and maximize their potential.
